OK, of all the stories I do, from time to time I get one that really hits home. This time, a little neighbor of mine, cute little 9-year-old Katelynn Grover is the one tugging on my heartstrings.  You see, she is a kid I see around a lot. Lives pretty close.

Now, all in all, she’s a pretty good kid. But, this time, she has really stepped it up. You see, she wants to compete in the Bikini Radar Runs that happen at various events throughout the winter. One of them is part of the Houghton Lake Tip Up Town event, which was scheduled for January 31st and February 14th. In addition, Katelynn is also planning on competing in the “TNT’s Ride Like A Girl To Save The Girls.”  This is the event hosted by lady racer Courtney Fender as part of the East Jordan Snow Blast, a winter Carnival type event that will take place on the weekend of February 20th.

These annual events raise money for cancer patients. The Houghton Lake event is sponsored by Fast Eddie’s Vintage Sleds. The event has been going on for a few years now. And, has raised quite a bit of money for people trying to combat the financial burden of fighting cancer. For the first show this year, Katelynn managed to raise more money than any of the other participants. Then, the TNT event was just started a couple years ago. This is their 3rd Annual. Last year, they raised about $11,000. And, Katelynn is hoping to do well there as well.

Now, for Katie, she is a kid that just loves helping others. As well, she also loves riding her sled. Part of this is because Dad was into the whole racing life style a few years back. So, she kind of got a push start from dad. But, she actually had the idea of competing in this year’s Bikini Radar Run. To combine two of the things she loves doing.

For me, as a friend of Katie, her dad Kris, and sister Klara, I just lit right up when I heard she was doing this. Right away, I was like “count me in.” I will do what I can to support her.

Also, the first Houghton Lake event is in the books. At this time, Katelynn is preparing to participate in the next two. On this, she has gotten a name for her race team, which is “Operation Lady Bug.” Her nickname is “Katy Bug.” Also, Dad has painted up her sled to look like a Lady Bug. So, a cute little kid on a cute sled. Gotta love it.

Now, with all of the crap that has been going on. I just though we needed a bit of good news. Here, we have a 9 year old little girl wanting to raise money to help others. And, she is not some spoiled rich kid. Her dad works for a living. And, provides a good, but somewhat modest existence for them. So, I think that is some very good news. Sometimes, it takes a little girl to show us what we should really want to be like, when we grow up.

So, come on out and cheer Katelynn on. And, support the Bikini Radar Runs and the people they help out. To donate or support her, contact her Dad, Kristopher Grover via Facebook.
